WorkshopsIf you want to know a little more about me and my books, feel free to explore this site, especially, my bio, and my books that I've written under this name. If you are interested in any of the workshops below, please contact me at my email address. Here are some workshops I have developed, or co-developed, with a brief outline of the topic, along with where they have already been presented (or are about to be!):
WorkshopsAfter the Call is Over(with Judith Laik)We guide you through the minefield after The Call is over, sharing our recent first publications experiences as "big sisters". The time immediately after The Call is hard. It's a whole new minefield to negotiate as Judy Laik and Leanne Shawler discovered last year. There are contracts, copy-edits, covers, galleys, promotion, and more on which to make decisions. They've pooled their resources to share their first book "mistakes" and help smooth the journey from The Call to the first book's publication. If you think you're getting close but haven't thought about what comes after The Call, this might be the workshop for you. Presented at::
Are You Ready For The Call?(with Judith Laik)The goal of this workshop is to prepare PRO (this is a group of writers in Romance Writers of America who have submitted work and been rejected) and other almost published authors for the Call. These are things that they should be working on while they wait for the Call. Having a network in place will catch them when the results of the Call start demanding answers yesterday. Presented at:
The ABC's of Writing HistoricalsThe goal of this workshop is to introduce the new romance author to the basic concepts of writing historical romance, with tips on how to avoid common pitfalls. Each letter relates to research, character and story development. Examples are given from the author's work (published and unpublished) that illustrate success or failure in applying these basic principles. Interaction is achieved by a short writing exercise part way through the piece, as well as a question and answer session at the end. Available in one hour or two hour formats. Presented at:
Bath and BeyondBath: an ancient spa city in the South West of England, frequented by many a Regency character. Learn about the city and its surrounds in this multi media presentation.Presented at:
Tired of Talking HeadsTired of talking heads? (No, not the band.) Do you have scenes that are all dialogue and no action? Are your characters walking, talking, taking, and it's coming across like your hero is an automaton? Are you communicating the hero's personality to the reader, and is the heroine reacting to him correctly? If the answer to these questions are: yes, yes, yes, no, then it's time to get physical: weaving body language into your writing. Body language is another form of communication between the hero and heroine. It gives clues to the reader. This interactive workshop will give the answers to all those body language questions and more by delving into nonverbal communication with a dash of acting. Learn how to avoid Talking Head Syndrome by weaving body language into your writing. In one hour or two hour formats. Presented at::
